Een uitlaatgasrecirculatieklep (EGR) wordt gebruikt om de uitstoot van stikstofoxide (NOx) te verminderen in alle dieselmotoren vanaf de Euro 5-emissienorm. Dit wordt bereikt door hete uitlaatgassen terug te voeren in het inlaatkanaal van de motor. Dit verlaagt de verbrandingstemperatuur in de motor en vermindert de vorming van stikstofoxiden.<\/p>\n

Het grootste nadeel van uitlaatgasrecirculatie is de technische kwetsbaarheid van de EGR-klep, die de toevoer van uitlaatgas naar de verbrandingsluchtstroom regelt. Brandstofresten zoals roet, oliekoolstof en onverbrande olie komen met de uitlaatgasrecirculatie in het inlaatkanaal terecht en kunnen de mechanische manoeuvreerbaarheid van de klep beperken of de bochten van de pijpen verstoppen. Het resultaat is een storing van de EGR-klep, die kan leiden tot zware roetontwikkeling, verminderde motorprestaties of motorschade.<\/p>\n

Om ernstige schade aan de motor te voorkomen, moet de EGR-klep tijdig worden gereinigd. Brandstoftoevoegingen of sproeireinigers helpen niet bij reeds vervuilde kleppen vanwege de hardnekkige aanslag en de klep moet worden verwijderd. Effectieve en grondige reiniging wordt uitgevoerd in het ultrasoonbad samen met een geschikt reinigingsconcentraat. Afhankelijk van de mate van vervuiling wordt aanbevolen om eerst handmatig de grove roetagglomeraten te verwijderen met plastic of houten spatels.
