Bij het frezen van hout worden de snijranden en holtes na verloop van tijd vuil door het proces. De vaste afzettingen zijn voornamelijk harsresten. De onzuiverheden tasten de snijkwaliteit aan en leiden tot verhoogde wrijving, wat op zijn beurt leidt tot hogere temperaturen en verhoogde slijtage.
