The European Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and the updated version 2012/19/EU The German Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (WEEE Act) obliges companies to collect, treat and dispose of waste electrical and electronic equipment and to bear the costs of doing so. Appliances that have become waste are referred to as old appliances. As the owner of old appliances, it is your responsibility to collect them separately from unsorted municipal waste and to dispose of them in special collection and take-back systems. According to the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), manufacturers are obliged to provide a reasonable opportunity for the return of old appliances.
