Use of distilled / deionised / demineralised / high purity water called demineralised water for short.

What is deionised water? #

Compared to city water, demineralised water does not contain any interfering ions such as hardness components (calcium, magnesium) or other ions except H+ and OH-(H2O).

The different names of deionised water are rooted in its production. Distilled water (as the name suggests) is produced by distillation. Deionised or demineralised water is obtained by passing water through ion exchangers. In this process, all ions except H+ and OH- are removed from the water. Another possibility to produce demineralised water is osmosis. Here, water is passed through a semi-permeable membrane that only allows highly pure water to pass through. Deionised water without additives in the ultrasonic bath Do not use deionised water without appropriate additives such as STAMMOPUR/TICKOPUR directly in the ultrasonic oscillating tank of compact units (1.4301 stainless steel), as this leads to increased cavitation erosion and even pitting at the bottom of the tank.

If the use of deionised water without additives is necessary due to the process, an insert vessel must always be used. For units with welded oscillating tanks and immersion oscillators made of stainless steel 1.4571, less erosion can be expected when using deionised water than with tanks made of stainless steel 1.4301.

It is advantageous to use deionised water in all ultrasonic units with the appropriate cleaners or disinfectants. The cleaning is more intensive and in many cases the dosage can be lower than when using city water.
