Sonotrodes are the liquid-contacting component of the ultrasonic system and are screwed to step and booster horns. All BANDELIN sonotrodes are made of the titanium alloy TiAl6V4 (3.7165). Sonotrodes transfer the mechanical vibrations into the sample, are thermostable, autoclavable and resistant to corrosive media. Sample volume, vessel diameter and desired amplitude determine the choice of instrument and type of sonotrode. A high amplitude means a particularly intensive sonication. Due to their geometry, the sonotrodes achieve multiple amplitude amplification and thus reach the highest ultrasound power densities in liquids. They are used for complicated laboratory tasks, such as cell and bacteria disruption in biology and reaction acceleration in chemistry. Long sonotrodes are especially suitable for sonication of ceramic suspensions or sample preparation for grain size analysis.
