Deposits of paraffins and soot on the injection nozzles/injectors change the spray pattern and thus worsen combustion in the engine. This results in increased fuel consumption or engine failure if the injector nozzle is completely clogged.
Due to the particularly high injection pressures in the diesel engine of up to 3,000 bar, a blockage of the injector can lead to the nozzle bursting and consequential damage due to free metal splinters in the combustion chamber.
It is therefore recommended to clean the injectors after the first 100,000 km and every 60,000 km thereafter.
Cleaning the injectors with additives added to the fuel is only of limited effectiveness. With a removal and intensive ultrasonic cleaning, the nozzles are effectively freed from deposits.
